Some nice hi-res 3D videos on Youtube

Hi, here are a few nice videos I found on Youtube:

How to find more: search for "VR", then filter by 3D and 4k, then sort by popularity. Warning: a lot of results will be NSFW. Actually there is not so much interesting content, but still I could find more good stuff than in the media apps, and it is easier to share.

If you download those videos with some app, and they look like a weird mess in some player, use Skybox. It has a special 3D setting called "Youtube 360".

Please suggest more sources for high quality 3D videos! I especially like music videos and visual pop-science lectures.

I wish more science channels, animation studios, music video makers would turn their attention to high-res 3D sooner. A 3D camera is expensive for a hobbyist, but for a reasonably sized concert venue it should be affordable.

Edit: a few more music videos:

Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still (pop)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk1FdPWEYZs

Tim Fain - Resonance (violin)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qECnb4CT-9c

Planet of the 8s - Hands On (metal)

KCRW channel gets it, they have a lot of various artists recorded at their studio in 4k 360 3D:

3D videos on YouTube are a mess

Main Post:

I haven't found a consistent way to browse YouTube 3D videos.

Here are the options I'm aware of

  • YouTube VR app
  • Virtual Desktop / BigScreen
  • On-device Browser (Oculus Browser / Firefox Reality soon to be Wolvic)

YouTube VR can display videos that are specifically marked as 3D. However, there are plenty of videos that are side-by-side but not marked as such to YouTube, and I haven't seen a way in the app to tell it to show the side-by-side as 3D.

VIrtual Desktop / BigScreen / Browser can show side-by-side content in 3D. However, YouTube's desktop website only allows marked-as-3D videos to be shown as anaglyph or 2D. I believe it used to show side-by-side as an option but not any more. Perhaps someone could make a browser extension to re-enable that option.

Either way, during a YouTube browsing session, depending on the video, there are some that cannot be watched as 3D during that session without switching programs.

3D Videos in VR?

Main Post:

I've looked around and have never seen anybody mention it or answer any questions related to this. When watching videos in vr, wether it be YouTubeVR or VRchat video players, do VR headsets turn any video into a 3D video? Does the oculus (or any other headset) act like 3D glasses when viewing flat videos in-game?

The reason I'm asking this is because I almost thought that YouTubeVR seemed immersive, despite it being only a curved flat screen

Top Comment: No, by default they don't convert 2D videos into 3D. You need special software (these days, probably AI-powered) to convert 2D videos into a kind of "fake 3D." Eg. Touchly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0RuERDo94o
